Motherboards.org is one of the coolest sites on the web (besides here of course  ) I don't know what happened to Liquid3D but I thought he was cool too. Maybe he got busy or something.
Which reminds me why I want to start working on a beowulf-on-a-backplane design: I want to be the one to write the program called "clusterfsck."

The new guys are great, that motherboard.org site seems like the bomb. I wonder what happened to Liquid3D, he seemed like a cool guy...
I hope that you meant that motherboards.org seems like the bomb was meant in a good way.

LiquidCD - dont know what hppened to him. Maybe he just came to get a few answers to some questions then left. I have seen numerous people on motherboards.org ask 1 - 5 questions and were never seen again. Or an instance occurs like airman; he has been busy with other endeavors so he has not been able to visit the forums lately, but we are hopefull that he makes a speedy return....

For something to bomb, that would be bad. For something to be the bomb, that would be good. Heh.

My intro

Postby Tilo » Sun Dec 08, 2002 1:39 pm

Aight- here's my intro....

I'm 6'4", tall, skinny white boy, recent grad of Luther College (where I roomed with and near Foolhardy for the first 3 years near Zoooooooot for all 4- that's who talked me into getting on this board lol). I enjoy long walks at the beach, romantic candlelight dinners... oh wait, this isn't a personal ad and I'm sure my fiance Teri wouldn't enjoy me opening up to the dating scene again

Anyways- I've been dinkin with computers since I had the ol' Apple ][e. Was big into playing the billions of games we inherited when we purchased the computer- and typing in code from the Byte and other Apple magazines, tho I didn't know what I was doing. When I was in 5th grade, I used some of that programming to good use- I got in trouble so had to write out "I will not do... blah blah blah" 100 times... so i jumped on the apple and made an infinite loop of it printing out on screen cuz i was so arnery.

I have a degree in Computer Science from Luther, tho I'm not using it right now- the other classes at Luther knocked my GPA down lower than I had wanted, and the job market wanted, so I'm in Des Moines working at an insurance agency scanning and indexing policies until I can get into the IT department there. The company does have a tuition reimbursement program, so I will be taking COBOL next semester to make myself look better to get into the IT for an insurance agency.

I build and repair computers for other people in my spare time, and have done quite a bit of webpage work. I hope that I can be a resource here on this board with a few of the things I know- and learn a lot about the tons I don't know.

Thanks for reading this hellacious post! :)

Once again - Welcome to the board!! I'm glad Zooooot talked you into hanging out with us. I can see you will be quite an asset to the board. So I have to assume that you can write C code? If so - Interesting. I may be in touch.

To C or not to C

Postby Tilo » Sun Dec 08, 2002 3:23 pm

E- C is probably my weakest language, just due to the fact that I've had the least amount of experience with it. Java is my best- though from not programming for a couple months, I'm a little shaky...

It's sad that in my trek to get my CS degree- some of the most important languages are my weakest because focus was on seeing many different languages.

Give me some code to look at and a project to work on, and I should be back in programmin shape in no time tho :D

Gosh I miss programming :(

Tilo - be careful what you wish for, you might be sorry! I have a project in mind - not ready to reveal it yet because I'm still thinking about what I want to do. Was thinking about getting Foo involved too if he's interested - he said he wants to learn C.

I'll be in touch once I get some kind of plan formulated.

Sounds good to me :) The last project I came up with on my own was actually a budgeting program for my finances. It's almost finished- I just have been waiting for all my bills to be stable to have the amounts I'll have to pay put in there... Now I'll be uber good about how much money I spend... or not lol

Sign me up for the team tho :)

Cool!! Consider yourself signed up. I really hope you're not sorry though. This one is going to be tough. The so-called Linux experts can't even get this to work properly so we'll have our work cut out for us - BIG TIME!! But boy would it be neat if WE could get it to work. Of course if we can make it work we'll have to name (real names - you want credit don't you?) all those involved in the project when we submit it.

I should be able to outline some more info for you after the holidays when I have more time to think. I have written no code for it yet - it's still in the planning stages.

Welcome to the team (if you still want to be on the team after you find out what's involved!! )

I have no doubt about that at all. I'm sure you'll do fine and I know you'll put what you can into it. Your reputation preceeds you thanks to your buddies Zooooot and Foo!! Anyone I can get who has any programming background and is willing to put time into this project will be a great asset to me. I'm NO master programmer myself. I'll let you know something when I know it myself!!

Like I said - welcome to the team!!! 8)
