Hello world. Its been a while since i've been here. Anywho, i just discovered something, In UT2003 (full version) i turned the graphics down to beatcrap (everything as low as possible) and the game looked like a blur of the first Doom game ever released. I left my resolution the same (1280x1024). The result was... no increase in FPS. everything was still choppy. It doesn't seem to matter rather i have verticle Sync on or off (the game must run under the Vsync limit). My old science teacher says it's due to a slow motherboard (i think it was one of the very first 8x AGP motherboards, everyone knows how the off-the-bat products work  ).Is anyone affirmative on that?? The same thing happens in Mafia also.

Spanky if you can provide us with more info we can better assist you. Have you updated to the latest BIOS for this motherboard?? Any sort of OC'ing on this setup?

Hey Spanky

Sorry to tell you but the slow graphics wont have to do with V-Sync, from the sounds of it, it would seem to me that your system might be underspec (not surprising seen as UT2003 runs like crap on a Duron 1GHZ with a GF2) have you tested your machine with 3DMark if so how many 3dMarks did you score, from this i'll be able to diagnose whether the problem is UT2003 or your comp ;) see you soon!

Check for a bios update. That is most likely your problem. Especially if that MSI is one of the first run boards.

I have already looked into a bios update, back when i was having the stabillity problem due to the RAM. I am on revision 3 of the bios, a 4th one is out but it just adds a feature of choosing a AGP or PCI video adapter. Where could i get a good 3Dmark program???i'll test it out with true performance and we'll see if i'm just expecting too much out of my system or if it really is bugged.

Muahahaha.... everyone loves the linux penguin.. especially EvLwMn.

The 3D mark tool will take some time to download on my 56K, I have to wait for summer to get my 1.5 MB wireless connection :( (they have to build a Mirror tower)

I'm bringing my computer to school to get it looked at for FREE! What are friends for?? His advice should be nice csince he owns a computer tech. place and he runs our school's server. i'll let everyone know how it goes, but for now, you can stare at the penguin.

Yes Spanky - I just LOVE Tux the Penguin! He's SO cute!!! :D

Don't worry - I can't get DSL either. But there's no ETA on getting it either. I'll just have to suffer with dial-up :(

It's nice that your friend will look at your rig for you. Yeah - let us know what you find out. I don't mind looking at Tux in the meantime!

Ok... I have the results from the 3DMARK03 test. (the one that fool hardy posted the link to) and it didn't run so well. in the nature scene it dropped to about 8 FPS. I scored 3969 3dmarks. I'm not sure if thats good or not (says its only comparable to other marks of the same program) but thats without the last CPU test and one of the sound test. I have a pic of my control panel settings as well as the 3DMARK consolewith my score, if anyone wants to see it. The last CPU test comess up with some kind of error message.

You should be getting alot more out of that rig!

What video mode are you running under? D3D? OpenGL? Are you running on Linux? If not, what OS? What version of drivers are you using for your Radeon 9700?

Lots of things it can be...but its definitely not the hardware. You should be pulling off at least 80-100+ fps...easy with that rig. With some tweaking, you could probably get 140-150+ fps.

Give some more details to your system...everything and anything. As far as the 3DMark...you should probably get a 12,000+ score I think...give or take.
