Zooot, Emulators are fine - but there is no substitute for the original Atari 2600s....except maybe the full blown Aracde boxes. I wish I had the original Arcade Donkey Kong or PacMan...hours of fun.

And we Asus freaks around here already know that Asus and tech support do NOT even belong in the same sentence

It wounds me when people have such problems with good companies. Thier tech support sucks - we all know that, but I have never had a problem with thier hardware. But every geek has thier own company they like to deal with. I used to deal alot with WD until thier drives became noisy as hell...I only use Maxtor mostly now...but some ppl will choose one over the other because of personal experiences...

I remember when I first started learning about computers - there WAS no help. I had to learn it on my own

My cousin first introduced me to computers really. I had an old PS/2 286 on loan from the government. She kept describing the insides of the PC and I really believed they were fragile as hell.
but when my old school began to through some away - I gathered up the components and started building them. Doing stupid stuff like using 2 8bit ISA video cards and car speakers for the PC speaker. You could hear that thing boot from outside... :P
I ran into alot of computer people aswell, but alot of them were snobish. Like they had attained some greatness and now were too important for the common folk... :?

Stuck up geeks are some of most pathetic people I've ever met. I got into computers when I kept breaking other peoples' and having to fix 'em before they found out  :P

Well that's the thing HJ - I have never needed tech support from Asus. Their hardware has always worked just fine for me right out of the box. And as for WD - I have only had problems with ONE particular model (I don't remember which one but it was a Caviar and hasn't been made for quite a few years). I'm STILL using WD HDDs and don't have any problems with them.

And that's the problem I ran into when I first started out - the geeks you ran into thought that since you were a noob that they were better than you. So even if you asked them a valid noob question they practically spit on you and looked at you like you were scum. So rather than that I started by reading books and basically tearing into any computers I could find to try to find out what made them tick. THEN - when I was in college I got lucky and made friends with the dudes in the Computer Science lab :D THOSE dudes - since we were friends and all - taught me A LOT!! AND a couple of them were master hackers - so I was trained by some of the best

But when I first started (before I made my hacker friends) I was on my own and it was really difficult to learn because I had no support system and no one who I could ask to explain things to me that I didn't understand. So I had to work it out myself. And THAT SUCKED!!!

Stuckup geeks! You hit it right on the money. When I first dropped in I thought I was going to get that type of attitude. So i figured I would just quietly snoop around and glean bits of info. But I saw warm and friendly "geeks" helping any who ask.I guess when you start with the right people, the same will follow. 8) :hands:

Thanks dude!! :D

That's what we like to hear 8)

You might get razzed, teased, hassled (in fun) and given total grief here (again in fun), but one thing you WON'T get here is elitist attitudes!!

None of us here will put up with it and if anyone comes in here with that kind of attitude they are either set straight right quick or run off!

And that's the truth - anyone who has been around here for a while can vouch for it. 8)

For the record - I don't join many forums myself. And I tend to lurk at them for quite a while if I am even CONSIDERING joining - just to see how things are REALLY handled and the type of people who are there. Hell - I lurked at motherboards.org for over a year before I registered there!!

I THOUGHT I had seen you before

Unfortunately, I don't participate at motherboards.org much anymore. Too much @$$hole BS going on there. I do visit every so often but when I do I only read in the Tech Support, OS, Recommendations, and Mobo ID forums and I only post there when someone needs Linux help - and ONLY if someone else hasn't given the correct answer :D

But I belong to several others, most of which are Linux only with the exception of the rage3D forum. 8)

Yeah - I hear ya. I must say that I hardly ever go there anymore at all. Hardware Junkie, Len444 and sodsm live seem to have the Linux advice under control so they really don't need me there anymore. But I DO pop in occasionally.

The Linux world on motherboards.org is almost non-existant though...

I stick around on motherboards.org because I do like the community on a whole, but it just takes a few to spoil the bunch...
If I had it my way though I would ban all political and religious discussions. They are causing more problems then they are worth.

Yeah HJ - for the most part you are right. There is little activity related to Linux on motherboards.org. But what does pop up seems to be well handled there. :D

I also like the community as a whole. Unfortunately, sometimes things go too far and are not handled when they should be but left to simmer so long that it just CAN'T be good (you know what I mean). It's not just political and religious discussions that this applies to either. This applies to a lot of threads - not just one or two. So I will just stay away for a bit - it's best that way. But like I said - I still do pop in once and a while and just read if nothing else. 8)
