I find it highly unlikely that another FF feature film will be made. The previous Final Fantasy movie was such a flop that it killed SquareSoft. The company, in financial ruin because of the movie, was bought out by another game company.

For them to make that kind of blunder again would be utter stupidity.

I did kind of like the first FF movie... the graphics were very nice- some parts I could swear they had real actors instead of graphics... :)

Here's what I dug up on the movie:

Some more news about it.

At a hotel near Chiba's Makuhari Messe, Square Enix has confirmed that just like Final Fantasy VII back then, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is being developed by Yoshinori Kitase's production team 1. Advent Children will be a high-quality CG movie of about 60 minutes in length. Final Fantasy VII's returning protagonist Cloud Strife will face a new foe and his calm, post-meteor world a new threat in form of the Star Scar Syndrome. Plans for this new project were drawn up 1.5 years ago and members from the original Final Fantasy VII development team have been brought together again.

60 min only?? Interesting...

Here's a pic of a few things from it: here

60 minutes is really more of a "short film" not a feature film. CG is disgustingly expensive to create, so they must already have a distribution model in mind -- and it may not be in theaters. More likely it'll go direct to DVD.

Being based on FF7 I can already tell it's going to suck. Sequels to great plots never succeed, because great plots have sensible endings and continuing that thought only drags on something that already is over.

i think your right about it going to dvd, and there really wasnt anywhere to go from the ff7 plot after it ended, be better if it was the story from ff7 :?

actually, you couldnt have really had a sequel to 7, 8, 9, or 10, and have it make sense :(

I couldn't agree more.. a live action movie that told the FF7 story would be far superior. I didn't realize what it was exactly at first

Sorry for the double post, but some reason my previous post didn't show up :S

Chrono Trigger is one of the better games for the SNES, IMHO :)

Final Fantasy games are all about the story... that's what makes them awesome. But the story isn't always easy to find, and it's always fragmented, full of holes, and the ending never makes sense or draws any conclusions. I dread FF endings... the best one so far is FF8, even if the rest of the game is not as good as FF7, which had a horribly confusing ending. Worst ending ever is a tie betweeen two and three...

There is so much more to FF7 than most ordinary players will discover in the game. The hidden characters of Yuffie and Vincent, the cinema scene that shows how Cloud got to Midgar and how Zack died, Sepiroth's real mother in the secret cave, Aeris' ghost, the story of Aeris' parents, the fact that Cloud can go on a date at the Golden Saucer with three characters other than Aeris (and with different plot lines in each date), and the mysterious secret room near the underground submarine base -- that's one that even I never solved, and I believe it may be a glitch in the game. But you get the point: there are a lot of plot threads that you don't get to see if you just breeze through the game -- or even if you're vigiliant. FF3 had a ton of these as well, like the scene where Gogo admits to being Daryl, the statue of Odin, Shadow's dreams, etc.

If you like Final Fantasy plots, you really should check out my new book when it's available in about three weeks. I hate shameless self-promoting, but this is relevant to the topic. The point of writing Search For The Emerald Blackbird was to take the operatic qualities of FF3 and FF7 and combine them with the suspense and drama of a spaghetti western, and end up with a story that is better, more sensical, with coherent English, and with a sensible ending. You can download the first third of the book (over 100 pages) in PDF form here:

http://www.emeraldblackbird.com/preview.pdf

I guarantee it's a better story than anything that could possibly go into a new FF movie. I'll tell you what -- I'll even give a money-back guarantee if you buy the book and don't like it. 8O

How would I go about finding a copy of this book? I'm not much of a reader in general, but with a money back guarantee I don't know if I can lose! ^_^ hehe

I have ta say, that I really like the first final fantasy.. It was totally irrelevant to the game series, but it was still a decent movie. I thought it did really well in the box office too... I saw it six times in theatres, and each time, I had problems finding a seat. Maybe my view on it is skewed. If the new one goes straight to dvd, I would be one of them people that would surely buy it
