If you haven't played Uru: Ages Beyond Myst yet....

Postby WonderMilkyBitch » Wed Jan 28, 2004 11:52 pm

...you should. It's an excellent addition to the Myst series. I've been playing Myst games since the first one came out and back then it was huge because of how revolutionary it was for a puzzle game.

I still have the same kind of passion for the series because no one else has done what the Myst games have done. Initially I was somewhat hesitant about Uru because I had skipped on the third one (Exile which I didn't even really hear about until long after it'd been released). But I went ahead, tried Uru, and have been best pleased with it.

The spec requirements are pretty high but I'm assuming that won't be a problem for most of the people here. Uru has a new dynamic from the other games I was familiar with because you have a character you design and play in 3rd person isometric. The controls are a bit clunky but that's fine cause you don't have to do complicated things really. The hardest part is navigating the very first intro level cause it's in somewhat close quarters and you aren't used to the movements yet.

Beyond that, though, the storyline is of the usual Cyan-quality, puzzles are challenging but rewarding, and the world environments... they're astounding. The movement and detail they achieve is a huge evolutionary step from the previous Myst games. It's gorgeous, to put it concisely, and anyone who likes beautiful games needs to check the game out.

i played the first Myst, and the sequel or addition or whatever it was, dont really remember the name, it was a long time ago :?

i liked D better than Myst though :D

if you like puzzle games, you should try Discworld 1 & 2, both for ps1 i think, i had to use a strategy guide to beat them, a little too puzzling for me :(

Heh, if it's more challenging than the Myst games then I probably shouldn't try it. I do love puzzle games but I have my hands plenty full with Uru right now.

Heh... you can't imagine how many times I've heard people say something like that.

I like games with guns, too, but they're not ALL I like. Ah well. Guess I'm special. Or maybe the people who say they prefer games with guns just can't run Uru on their computers. : b

the majority of gamers prefer guns, and gamers are the largest market for the higher end video cards and processors, nobody needs a 3.0 @ 3.8 with an ocd 9800XT and 2x512 of mushkin lvl2 for typing up spreadsheets :D ( not my rig, mines 2.8 @ 3.3, 9800pro and 2x256 mushkin lvl2 )

Well, even though I wasn't playing the Live version, it's sad to say that Live has been cancelled due to terminally low membersubscriptions. Something good is coming out of it, though: the content that was previously "online only" is now being packaged into expansion packs and those of us who have the game are getting the first one for free! I'm pretty stoked about that...
