Diskeeper...!

Postby Aldabest » Mon Mar 08, 2004 10:16 pm

I've got Diskeeper 7 Trial version downloaded, and running for around 3 months now, and everything is fine. I turned on the automatic run during the trial, and though it doesn't let me manually run diskeeper anymore, it still works fine on its own, and does things when it feels like. This is a bit annoying because I've been playing games and it's tried defragging during the worse times. Here's the problem. I want to uninstall it, but I've also read many threads on different sites that if you uninstall, sometimes it deletes windows files on its own and Windows get very screwed up. So what do I do? Put up with the craptacular schedule it has set up for itself, or take my chances and delete the program? Any other solutions or just opinions would be appreciated.

a precarious situation...what a horrid piece of software! Can you back up your files to CDR or another hd? I reinstall OSes pretty often so I keep my most precious stuff on at least two pieces of media in case something like this happens. Of course my advice would be to go for it as long as you have a means to get your system back the way you want it.

And for future reference, you've prolly figured this out already, but don't automate things in windows if you want security :)

Let us know what you decide

I think the problem is with version 5-7 .Its got something to do with the registry going fubar so you better back up yours.I uninstalled ver 7 from mine with no problems but I never turned on the auto run.

An even bigger problem is that I don't know how the hell to back up my files, and I won't have the time at least for another week to figure it out. Do you guys have any links to sites that teach it?

First thing is do you have a cd burner (CD/RW) and what software do you use for it (like nero).

that's a great start. if you don't have a burner, do you have a spare HD? Being a huge geek I use several concurrently because I've been a victim if severe data loss myself. We hate it when stuff like this happens, but it really does happen to the best of us :(

I do have a cd writer. Incidentally, I also have unused cd's. :\

then your good to go! Back up what you'll miss if your system goes down.
