Postby cuchumino81 » Thu Jul 15, 2004 11:42 pm

Well im having kind of a prob. I recently reinstalled WinXP on my comp, and to my disfortune forgot to installa firewall on it. I now have some type of bug in my system that is always sending information on my 56k telephone conection.

Dunno how to get rid of it. Any help or suggestions?

yea AVG anti virus. doesn´t detect it though, but has helped to at least reduce the bug from sending info a bit

problem partially solved
Also installed a firewall. Tiny personal firewall. this firewall helped me to disable the bug, and free my bandwidth. It now doesn´t act up anymore. But it is just dormant in my HD.

those worms and viruses are clever little buggers- their first step is typically to disable or corrupt the antivirus.
My next step is to see if I can find any strange open apps or file shortcuts and google them to see if anyone has had similar problems. That process often leads me directly to a forum or antivirus site that helps explain the problem and gives options (and sometimes downloadable tools) to fix the problem.
If all else fails, backup important data and reinstall- it never hurts to be cautious.
