Transitioning off of Windows 98!

Postby Lee » Tue Jun 01, 2010 12:37 am

Scenario:
Retired couple
windows 98
dial-up internet
old Mozilla browser
CD burner not working (driver problem)

Mission:
Backup data (this is vital for tax reasons, etc.)
Transfer data to a modern Windows 7 machine that will eventually have broadband

Any thoughts on how to accomplish this mission?

Fortunately, it should mostly be a data problem since the CD burner isn't working right. The tax stuff is all in regular MS Excel spreadsheets that should hopefully be importable to a new version of office. :?

Be careful when you install a new Windows after an old,
it will create a multiboot system
If you buy a new HDD, remove the old HDD before you
Install the new Windows unless you want to multiboot
