I am Looking for Suggestions for a new motherboard

Postby Nixon » Sat Feb 01, 2003 5:47 pm

I have a Tyan S2266 motherboard with Via chipset. I put a P 4 1.7 cpu, 256 DDR RAM. My radeon 9000 or a Geforce 4 MX 440 video cards and my aopen 840 sound card does not work on it. I am Very unhappy with the board. I am looking for suggestions what would be a good board to go with. Keeping a balance with price and quality. thanks

Asus and MSI make excellent boards. The P4B533 from Asus would be one of my first choices as the price on them is down ($115 at newegg). If you want 8X capability - the P4S8X is running $135 at newegg.

For MSI boards, the 645E Max2-LRU is a pretty nice board for $112 at newegg and the 845GE Max-L $95 is also a pretty good deal. I all depends on what you want and what your budget is.

I hope that helped. 8)

Oh - and welcome to the board Nixon!! :D
Which reminds me why I want to start working on a beowulf-on-a-backplane design: I want to be the one to write the program called "clusterfsck."

Well to better give a recommendation for a new motherboard we would need specific feature requirements:

Such as:
    8x capable
    LAN
    RAID
    USB 2.0

Have you viewed Our motherboard reviews list yet?

you should be happy with boards from Asus, MSI, and other manufacturers already listed in this thread.
